The Modern Languages Department offers a multiple-semester sequence of courses in the basic language skills of 听, 说话, 阅读 and writing in the 西班牙语 language. 课程 are also available in the fields of Hispanic literature in translation, Hispanic culture and history in film, 对话西班牙, and 西班牙语 for individuals working in the fields of medicine, 教育, 以及执法部门.

Span V60:  西班牙语 for Medical Interpreting 在线(部分)

Recommended for students with intermediate to advance 西班牙语-说话 proficiency

Introduction to 西班牙语/English medical interpreting. Designed to teach students to interpret in a medical context using consecutive, 同时, 还有视觉翻译. Includes interpreting in a medical setting, pronunciation of 西班牙语 and English names and medical terms, 西班牙语 and English medical terminology, bi-cultural medical communication and regional dialects, scenarios that an interpreter encounters while on the job. Addresses patient/provider communication, 文化干扰, interpreter code of ethics and the role of the interpreter in the healthcare setting and industry.

Span V70: 西班牙语 for Medical Personnel 在线(部分)

Recommended for students with intermediate to advance 西班牙语-说话 proficiency

Introduction to specialized vocabulary and basic grammatical concepts needed by health profession personnel and their application in practical settings. Includes an intro to medical terminology in 西班牙语 that includes body structure, 身体系统, 前缀, 后缀, 词根, false cognates and most common pitfalls due to English interference and linguistic transfer.

If you would like to enroll in 西班牙语 V02-V03-V03S, please fill out this 问卷调查 and meet with an academic counselor to remove the pre-requisite.

西班牙语 V04 constitutes the second semester of second year college 西班牙语.

课程内容: This course emphasizes grammatical principles, ,包括, 但不限于, the use of the present and past tenses, 反身动词, 命令, 对象代词, 现在完成时, present-subjunctive, 将来时和条件时, 过去的虚拟语气, 不完美的虚拟语气, 和比较级. 学生 will expand their vocabulary, 语法, 阅读, 听, 文化技能, and overall communicative skills by performing a series of activities. These activities involve participating in group discussions, 创造角色扮演场景, 给演示, analyzing artistic and literary works, 听歌词, 观察短片. To further increase language fluency, students will be guided through the process of writing paragraphs, 博客, 和其他合成.

西班牙语 V03S: 西班牙语 for Heritage Speakers (部分在线)

This course is ideal for students who grew up hearing and 说话 西班牙语, but who have had little exposure to 阅读 and writing in their heritage language. This course will also explore the cultural diversity of the 西班牙语-说话 world and identity issues related to growing up bilingual/bicultural in the United States.
